Father : "Hey, son did you get any chance to free your hand, or you still carrying your learner's license".
Me : "No (lying) dad i didn't get a chance."
Father : "Oh, ok lets go out for a long drive, it has stopped raining and it’s a very pleasant weather out there. And yes you will take the pilot's seat".
I had been to my parent’s house few days back only, it has been raining since then and I was enjoying the weather with no driving lesson to scare. But now the rain has stopped, and feels like little Jhonny will get the chance to play again but I am not Jhonny I don’t want to play, Rain rain come back again, I don't want a scary driving lesson again.
Me : "No dad, I don't feel like taking it today, you drive i will be sitting next to you".
Still frightened of the last time i took the pilot seat with friends, helping me to learn driving.
Me : "Come-on son you are a good driver, you had been doing so well, the last time I saw you drive".
Well the last time when I drove with my father, it was some of my first lesson in the driving school and he was my first teacher. And to my surprise it was really a roller-coaster ride to learn driving from him. And maybe because of having such a good teacher with me, instilled a lot of confidence(maybe overconfidence) in me.
Thus I took the driver seat again, controlling myself and trying to forget the last accident I had with my friends sitting alongside with me. Though the accident was not a big one but has shattered my confidence and I never wanted to drive again.
Still, I started the engine, put the vehicle in the first gear and made the move, to boost my confidence everything went well and I started feeling better maybe it’s because I was sitting next to the best teacher in the world. Soon i was driving well and then I had moved into the top gear.
Me : Am I doing right?
Father : Yes son you are, you are doing excellent.
Listening those good words, was really soothing and did boost a lot of confidence.
Soon I was on a narrow lane and there was no one-way drive available and because of the rain the road was full of pot-holes and has become difficult for driving, still I was driving well, but soon came my biggest fear, there was a big lorry coming from the front, my heart started pounding fast, I started sweating even with the pleasant weather. Though the lorry was coming at a very smooth pace, still I was feeling nervous, making me remind everything about the last accident where i went on to hit the pole on the opposite side, with the lorry passing by smoothly.
More or less I was in a very similar situation again, but this time I felt a tap on my left shoulder pressing a little, and then.
Father : "Calm down son, take the foot out of accelerator, get on a lower gear and try to move slowly if possible or else just park the vehicle on the side and let the lorry driver make the move."
I did as advised and it was so easy. And soon i was driving well again passing all the hurdles coming in my way following and remembering all the good advice coming from my teacher and that me get my confidence back. Once we reached back home.
Me : (After coming out of the cab and giving a tight hug) "Dad you know it’s really a nice feeling to drive sitting next to you, life become so easy when you are there around me and will always need your guidance, even if I say I don't need anyone's help so be with me always forever."
"Dad I love you and, you are the best dad, you are my hero".
This metaphor of life is endearing. But on a lighter note, very rarely would you find a dad who is a good driving instructor.
